The Dolphin Coast community can again celebrate a successful festive season thanks to the active collaboration of businesses, private security, civil society groups, and law enforcement. We also enjoyed a vastly improved electricity supply from the previous year, functional traffic lights at major intersections, and a successful safety and security operation – especially at our beaches.
Despite challenges with water supply from the upstream provider, transparent and timely communication from Siza Water about these challenges along with mitigation efforts helped our residents to cope. The entire season was a masterclass in co-governance bringing together private sector, civil society and local government to deliver for our community.
We say a big THANK YOU to our ward councillors, iLembe Chamber, SAPS, Ballito & Salt Rock Neighbourhood Watches, KDM Community Safety, Siza Water, Community Policing Forum, and our local private security firms.
Reflecting on 2025
It was also a time to reflect on milestones and achievements from the past year. Some DOCRRA highlights from 2025 included:
-the removal of a mayor whose brief administration was characterized by abuse of office,
-the NERSA audit of KDM Electricity and the formation of the End User Forum,
-and the tabling of the COGTA Section 106 investigation report into maladministration,
ALL of which were directly instigated and/or influenced by DOCRRA and our KORA allies.
What’s coming up in 2026
Despite the achievements last year, concerns still loom on the horizon and our team are hard at work tackling:
-the upcoming property revaluations,
-transparency into the COGTA Section 106 investigation report,
-out-of-control energy losses,
-analysis of the KDM mid-year financial results and the ‘24’/25 annual report,
-environmental concerns from poaching to pollution,
-preparation and mobilisation for the upcoming local government election,
…and so much more.
We’ve reached a turning point where corrupt politicians and municipal officials’ mismanagement of resources are being exposed, investigated, and addressed, and a path to recovery is unfolding BUT we cannot take our foot off the accelerator, and your support is more critical now than ever. Join DOCRRA today to be part of the active citizenship movement that is futureproofing the North Coast and maintaining our place as one of the most sought-after destinations in the country.
