We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended our Community Conversations AGM event two weeks ago at the Salt Rock Country Club. It was an amazing gathering of community stakeholders including some of our Councillors, representatives from the KwaDukuza Residents Forum, the Ilembe Community Action Network, neighbourhood watches, Community Policing Forum, iLembe Chamber of Commerce, small business owners and many Dolphin Coast residents.
We want to also extend special thanks to our special guest, Julius Kleynhans from the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) and Eric Bott, who spoke on forensic auditing of electricity. The event also would not have been possible without the hard work of Andrew Bigley of 25one, Tracy and Ty Hill from Codesource, and Nikki Strachan and her team at the country club.
Most importantly, we want to express our gratitude to the community for openly sharing the concerns that they have about the issues affecting our area. It was clear that the taxi vigilantism that has been taking place had reached a boiling point, and immediately following the event, we launched our dedicated reporting email address (reporttaxi@docrra.co.za) for residents to submit incidents to us to be handed over to law enforcement. We received over a dozen incident reports about both vigilantism and traffic violations. These reports will be handed over to Colonel Xulu at SAPS and Metro Police respectively.
Fortunately, things have gone a lot quieter, and we are witnessing or receiving only the odd report of vigilantism since a few days after we launched our campaign. It also has to be noted that many meetings and hard work have gone on behind the scenes by the various security structures that have also contributed to a return of more normalcy, and we owe them our thanks as well. We will keep the community updated on our submissions to the authorities and continue to monitor this issue moving forward.
