DOCRRA CHAIRMAN’S UPDATE FOR JANUARY 2022

The Dolphin Coast Residents and Ratepayers Association (DOCRRA) would like to wish all our members, partners, and affiliates, a very happy 2022 and is looking forward to another year of working together.

DOCRRA is also pleased to announce that it has secured representation on the new Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Representative Forum of the KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM). The newly elected Council is obliged to develop a renewed 5-year IDP for KDM.

DOCCRA, as well as the neighbouring organised ratepayers’ associations of the KwaDukuza Organised Ratepayers Alliance (KORA), will be ensuring that the needs of the Dolphin Coast, Tinley Manor, Blythedale and Zinkwazi, will be included in this new plan. “Working with our partners at The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) and the Auditor General’s Office, has strengthened our influence on the forums DOCRRA has representation on at KDM” says Deon Viljoen, Chairman of DOCRRA and convener of KORA.

“There are at least 5 critical KDM financial process deadlines before June 2022, and we are ready to exert our influence on these” says Brian Botes chairman of the DOCRRA Municipal Finance committee and representative at the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).

In addition, the around 5,000 paid up members of the KORA organisations have registered to have representative members stand for election of the various ward committees in their areas, due to be formed by February 2022.

In other news, DOCRRA is pleased to see the informal KwaDukuza Residents Forum become more structured and formalised. Active citizenship is undoubtedly the only way to ensure sustainable service from KDM, and getting more energy and citizens involved can only be a good thing.

With a 21-year history and a strategy that is paying dividends, DOCRRA remains eager to work with any citizens organisation that has similar aims and will continue with its policy of inclusiveness. “It would be a travesty to duplicate effort and scarce resources” says Flip Helberg, Vice Chairman of DOCRRA and committee member of the Greater Ballito Operations Centre (GBOC).
