The Dolphin Coast Residents and Ratepayers Association (DOCRRA), and the leadership from the civic structure in Ward 8, are delighted to announce that we are collaborating to address ongoing concerns from the residents. We kicked off this partnership at the Mayoral IDP/Budget Imbizo for Cluster A (wards 7, 8, 20, 23, & 28) which was held on Saturday, 14 October, at the Shayamoya Community Hall.
Approximately 150 residents from various wards were in attendance as well as Her Worship, Mayor Nhaca and other KDM leadership, community leaders from Ward 8, and Deon Viljoen and Stephan Marais from DOCRRA.
Residents are very concerned about the alarming increase in criminal activity whether it be related to drugs, gender-based violence or theft. They also say that the needs of the community in terms of housing and access to public facilities are not being met. Furthermore, they have expressed that they are being overlooked when it comes to job creation and economic empowerment.
Deon Viljoen, vice chairman of DOCRRA stated, “DOCRRA is here to support all residents of the Dolphin Coast. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded residents of this community and look forward to building our relationship to tackle the issues at hand. We are all equally concerned with the lack of services and interaction with our municipality in KwaDukuza.”
Themba Ntuli, chairman of the newly-formed DOCRRA Ward 8 subcommittee said, “we are confident that partnering with DOCRRA will give us the expertise to tackle the many service delivery issues facing our community – especially when it comes to access to public facilities and safety and security”.
