Municipal Oversight in Action: DOCRRA weighs in on MPAC

DOCRRA has again played a leading role in evaluating and providing oversight at the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).  The main purpose of the MPAC is to exercise oversight over the executive functionaries of council and to ensure good governance in the municipality.

Some 150 professional hours were spent in analysing the extensive draft report, submitting 45 key questions and recommendations at the 4 meetings of MPAC held at the KDM boardroom.

“Holding our municipality to account for their actions and inadequate service delivery is an annual cornerstone of the activities of DOCRRA,” says Brian Botes, chairman of the DOCRRA financial subcommittee. “We can see how the input from DOCRRA, on MPAC, and many other forums, is being recognized, considered and how plans are amended according to the needs of our members.

“It is a long and arduous road though, and we thank our members and committees for their input and time,” says Deon Viljoen, DOCRRA chairman.
