What is the MPAC? & How Have DOCRRA Participated in the MPAC Process?

The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) is comprised of Councillors who have been appointed by the Council as well as other members who are not Councillors who are co-opted in an advisory capacity due to their expertise.  Its role is to exercise oversight over the executive functionaries of the Council and to ensure good governance in the Municipality.

The MPAC holds the executive and Council accountable according to what has been outlined in the Integrated Development Plan (IDP), the budget, and the service delivery and budget implementation plan (SDBIP).  Its oversight role also extends to making recommendations regarding performance review and management.

The MPAC meetings are open to the public, and DOCRRA both attends these meetings and poses specific questions to the committee.  To understand MPAC and its role further, please watch this video:

As mentioned, DOCRRA delegates attended all MPAC meetings that reviewed the 2022 Annual Report.  A list of questions posed and the responses by KDM are available HEREThere are several outstanding issues which will be followed up on, such as the Auditor General report on disaster funding expenditure.

We need your help to continue to hold our Municipality accountable through the analysis of annual reports and attendance to meetings such as MPAC.
