KDM at Work: Visible Improvements in Service Delivery

We have good news to share this September and hope that it will set the tone for improved service delivery moving forward.  The DOCRRA team have been out and about to monitor the status of road maintenance, verges and streetlights. We are elated to report back that KDM have been at work on some of the roads in Ballito and in Ward 22.

Here are some of our findings:

  • In Ballito…80% of our streetlights are working. Some roads have been tarred and we have observed many pothole repairs. The repaving of Townsend Road has begun.  Pothole repairs have also been noted on Jacqueline Drive and Hilary Road.  We are also happy to report that streetlights are working on these roads that hadn’t worked for about 4 years.
  • The litter around Compensation area has been cleaned and the verges neatened.
  • In Ward 22…streetlight repairs have been done in McDonald Road and technicians have replaced the light fittings and attended to a faulty cable next to the streetlights. In total, six roads have been completed with approximately 80 lights repaired or replaced.  Repairs to Basil Hulett Drive have also begun.

In other news,

  • We have been receiving ad hoc reports on improved interaction and service delivery at some of the community-facing departments of KDM, particularly the new licencing department at the Ballito offices.
  • We appreciate the improved and more comprehensive communication that our Mayor is sharing on events and actions taking place in KwaDukuza.
  • The earthworks for our new electricity supply and substation in Compensation has also begun.
  • Furthermore, our Ward committees in wards 22, 6, and 30 are functioning well.

There is still a long way to go, but we are delighted to note the changes in service delivery that have become visible.

As a recognised stakeholder by KDM, DOCRRA tackles a wide range of issues, including but not limited to service delivery.
